Since landing in Cantoland on Monday, I was down with tonsillitis within 24 hours. Not an auspicious start to the new year no? Nonetheless, I still managed to get to work and get some red packets! It is brilliant being single in a Chinese community hehe.. Though it makes me quite guilty that my assistant and my cleaner have to dig into their pockets in this time of economic uncertainty to give me a red packet. Our patients tried to give us red packets too but we are not supposed to receive any financial incentive from them, though the chocolate and cookie drawer is pretty full at the moment! =)
We had our annual training days with other colleagues over the weekend. Only in this country do they make you come in on a Saturday to collect Continued Professional Development (CPD) points! They used to make it Sunday as well, but the less suicidal ones managed to veto that thank goodness! I decided that dimsum was more important than CPD points and dragged my podiatrist to eat our weekly allowance of custard buns. Saturday afternoon was spent shopping with the ophthalmologist's friend from Oxford, while Sunday was my usual routine of going to Church, lunch, shopping with a massage thrown in.
I am considering what I should give up for lent this year. And I have decided that this lent, I shall quit shopping for 40 days. This is going to be tough if I go to Thailand in March or if I happen to have a sugar low and cannot find a donut-substitute. However, this is probably my greatest vice and I should aim to cut the amount of exercise my credit card gets. Who's with me?
