Polling Day

Today is Polling Day in Scotland... I think the rest of the United Kingdom has some form of election thingy, but that's none of my business.
I am more concerned that TODAY is the first time I have ever voted...
(Voting for Interact Club president doesn't count)

Anyways, since my dad had so considerately remembered to register me with the Electorate, (After forgetting to do so at the last election, but never mind) I had the wonderful opportunity to make the people suffer for my decisions choose my Scottish Member of Parliament wisely.

So I trouped along to the local polling point and got my ballot papers, I wanted to pretend to be my brother since they wouldn't know any difference with all those Chinese names, but being the honest and upright person I am, I decided to be Stella Chai..
(I do like my name mum, though Mango might have been cooler)

My mum came to vote with me, as did Oswald and Olivia. Unlike the polling stations in Malaysia where there are hordes of people milling about outside and making a racket; it was very organised and peaceful. Maybe because it was 9pm already. heheh!

We got our ballot papers (yay!) and there were two, one for the local Aberdeen Council Member and the other for the Scottish Parliament (which was half orange and half purple, no prizes for guessing which half i liked more). We got an explanation of where to tick cross out with [X] and where to pick first, second and subsequent choices... I didn't know elections were so complicated!

So while I was very diligently playing Inny Minny Moe with mine, my mum suddenly popped her head over to my side of the cubicle (which was there to protect voter anonymity) and asked me which party I chose =.=

The Aberdeen Council Member list was pretty cool though! My neighbour was standing for it!
And the guy never came over to buy our votes tell us! What a shame, I was tempted to write next to his name 'I know where you live' But that wouldn't have made a difference as it had his address on it (That was how we knew he was standing for it)

We also took some photos (So touristy!) and posed with our ballot papers haha.. Maybe when I can figure out how to retrieve them from the phone I will post them up!

So there was our five seconds of citizen empowerment!
I do hope the party I voted for wins! It wouldn't make a difference to me anyway... But to know that you have played a part in making the debate in the lovely Parliament building in Holyrood all the more boring is a comforting thought!

Maybe they might let me vote in Malaysia the next time round.

UPDATE: The party I voted for didn't win, but the Scottish National Party(the one looking for an independent Scotland) took majority. I am still not sure if my neighbour won.
